We are only a few weeks into 2020 and we are already seeing new cycling technology hitting the market which is giving us an insight as to what to expect for this coming year. Road bikes are the most popular type of bicycle for athletes and commuters as they are designed to be used on the road rather than muddy off-road tracks. Within this article we are going to explore five bicycles which have been released for this year and see how their technology has been updated to make them the most lusted after bikes on the sale at the moment:
- Cannondale SuperSix Evo
- Trek Domane
- BMC Roadmachine
- Scott Addict
- Specialized Roubaix
Cannondale SuperSix Evo
For 2020 the Cannondale SuperSix Evo was completely redesigned in all aspects to create the ultimate road bike. This bicycle was adapted in various ways to improve its aerodynamic shape and power, while still ensuring that the bike was lightweight. To do this the bicycle had truncated Aero tube profiles fitted to reduce resistance while making sure the ride was still comfortable. Along with this, to improve its lightweight feel, it has been fitted with disc brakes. The bike also features SAVE micro-suspension as well as 30mm tire clearance and System Bar handlebar (on higher models only). The SuperSix Evo ranges from £1,999 to £8,999 depending on the model.
Trek Domane
The Trek Domane sees its third generation launched in 2020 which features a revised IsoSpeed layout. As well as this, the bike has increased tyre clearances, integrated storage, aerodynamic improvements and disc brakes. We will see the use of disc brakes increase during this year as this appears to be the latest trend for road bicycles. The Trek Domane bikes range from £525 to £9,750 depending on the model.
BMC Roadmachine
The BMC Roadmachine was originally released back in 2017 and it was very popular. But to stay in line with the 2020 trend of an all in one road bike, the bike was transformed and re-released. The bicycled weighs 900g and has seen advancements to improve its stiffness, balance, comfort and vertical compliance. The most appealing thing about the BMC Roadmachine is its integrated cockpit and the fact that the handlebar position has been adjusted using a proprietary spacer system. As well as this, the bike has a large tyre clearance which make mounting gravel tyres easier. This bike is priced from £2,999 to £8,999 depending on the type of model.
Scott Addict
The Scott Addict remained untouched with regards to its specification since 2014, but 2019 saw a whole new model unveiled. This road bike has disc brakes which is a popular implementation for 2020 as these types of brakes have a stronger braking power which is consistent and also more reliable in the wetter weather compared to rim brakes. The handlebars of the Scott Addict contain fully internally routed cables and disc brake hoses as well as 28mm tyres. The Scott Addict bike can be picked up for £1,099 to £5,899 depending on the model chosen.
Specialized Roubaix
The Specialized Roubaix 2020 is believed to be the most advanced racing bike in the country due to its lightweight and aerodynamic adaptations. When creating the framework for the Roubaix, they produced it to the Rider First standards which aim to be the ideal balance of aerodynamics, comfort and rigidity for a variety of frame sizes. The frame weighs in at 900g and also provide a tyre clearance of 33m. For the seat post, they have opted for a D-shaped design which offers additional flex in the upper half of the support. The main focus of this new style Roubaix is the improved Future Shock 2.0 system as well as its under-stem suspension system which provides a 20mm vertical compliance. You can purchase this range of bicycles starting from £2,600, up to £10,000.
